Sometimes we fail to do what we should do because we don’t think we have what we are supposed to have. What if the things we think we need are not as necessary as we believe they are? Some of us are one thing away from doing what we know we need to do. Can we improvise? Can we substitute something for the thing that is missing in order to move forward? Now I realize there are some things that can’t be replaced or overlooked if we intend to do certain things. For instance, it’s hard to make a cake without eggs or Kool-Aid without sugar. But some things aren’t absolutely necessary. They would be nice to have, but there are ways to work around certain things. Instead of stopping or choosing not to start because of what’s missing, what if we got creative. What if we figured out another way? Some of us give up so easily. I know you may not have what you want, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have what you need. Sometimes we can take what we have and create what we need. It’s not that we don’t have anything. We have the raw materials. We have something we can start with. Many of us are waiting for things to be just right. We are waiting on the stars to align and for things to fall into place. Well, I have news for you. The stars may never align, and I don’t trust anything to just fall. That sounds like chance and luck. It’s time to take some responsibility. How long are we going to give so much attention to what’s missing or yet to be done? We may not be ready, but there is something we can do. Instead of not moving because we’re not ready, how about we get ready on the way.

I was driving behind a woman one morning and was frustrated because she was driving slowly. When I was able to pass her, I realized why. She was eating a biscuit and putting on mascara. My frustration turned into admiration. Though I was frustrated by the fact that she was holding me up, I admired the way she didn’t allow the fact that she was hungry and had not yet finished applying her makeup to keep her from doing what she needed to do. She was not concerned about slowing me or any other drivers down on her way to where she was going. She had a destination. She was, to some degree, focused. She new she had to get where she was going to do what she needed to do. Now I have no idea who she was. But the people she was going to see when she got where she was going knew her. And when they saw her, I bet she had a full stomach, her makeup was on point, and she was ready to do what needed to be done because she chose to get ready on the way. Question… Are you going to continue to wait until things are just the way you want them before you act. Are you willing to take a chance? Will you risk looking a little crazy? Start with what you have and make the decision to get ready on the way.
